Choosing providers to meet all your healthcare needs can be challenging – but it doesn’t have to be. Kick off 2019 by selecting the right providers for you and your wallet. Below are a few helpful reminders to guide you through this important decision-making process.
In-Network: The first question you should ask when picking a provider is – “is he or she in-network?” Ideally, you’ll want to select a provider that’s part of Ascension’s Tier 1 network. By selecting an Ascension Network (Tier 1) provider, you’ll receive the highest level of coverage at the lowest out-of-pocket cost. It’s important to note that not all doctors within an Ascension facility are part of the Ascension network.
If an Ascension provider isn’t available, your next best option is to choose a provider from the National Network (Blue Cross Blue Shield). If you seek care from Out of Network providers (those not participating in the Ascension or National Networks), you will still receive coverage, but will pay at least half of the cost of services.
Below are directions to search for the Ascension Network and National Network Provider Directories.
Location: You’ll next want to consider the location of your provider’s practice. Is it close to work or home? How often do you expect to travel to their office? For physicians, such as your primary care doctor, a nearby practitioner is highly recommended as you may visit him or her often.
Practice Hours: A provider’s office hours also are important to consider. Will he or she be in the office when you need to visit? Do they offer extended hours or open on the weekend? You’ll also want to know the type of assistance you’ll receive if you have an emergency.
Get Recommendations: If you feel comfortable, ask your friends, family and colleagues for their recommendations.
By finding the right physician that meets your needs, you’ll feel comfortable and confident that you are in control of your health.
