March Madness is here! Did you know that a 30-minute basketball game can burn anywhere from 200 to over 700 calories? While you’re cheering on your favorite teams, make plans to get outside and start exercising this spring.
Here are some tips to get your spring exercise routine started:
Play a game of basketball – It varies from person to person, but a friendly game of hoops for someone who weighs 150lbs can burn around 270 calories in just 30 minutes. Want to boost the burn? Play full-court competitively!
Kick a soccer ball – Soccer can be a fun way to exercise, improve cardiovascular health, and requires very little equipment to get started. An average person weighing 185lbs may burn over 311 calories in 30 minutes.
Ride a bicycle – Dust off the old ten-speed and head out! Your calorie burn will be greater the faster you go, with an average person weighing 150lbs burning 298 (12-13mph) to 614 calories (> 20mph).
Run – Want the most calorie bang for your exercise buck? Go for a run. Running comes out on top for the number of calories burned – in 30-minutes the average 185lb person will burn 355 calories (12 min mile) to 733 calories (6 min mile).
If you aren’t into those ideas, consider spring cleaning and yard work! 30 minutes of heavy cleaning, general gardening, or planting trees will burn around 200 calories, and 30-minutes of mowing the lawn with a push mower will burn around 244 calories for the average 185lb person.
